This past Sunday marked the beginning of 2013’s “Harlem Week,” a now 39 years running celebration that suggests as last year’s theme, “Harlem: Where the World Meets the World.” The 2013 theme “Living the Dream: Celebrating History” is in tribute to the 50th Anniversary of The March on Washington and the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. From July 28th to August 24th enjoy concerts and events including NYC Economic Development Day, an All Day Salute to Motown the Musical, Harlem 5k run, NYC Children’s Festival, Healthy Eating and Healthy Living Farmers Market, The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, International Vendors Village, and more! It all culminates on August 24th’s Anti-Gun Violence Walk for Peace, a “call to action for communities in the Tri-State region” to address gun violence, domestic violence, bullying and other anti-violence issues.
